President Kersti Kaljulaid is on a working visit to Latvia today, meeting with her Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts in Rīga and visiting the NATO Multinational Division North headquarters in Ādaži.
During her meeting with President Egils Levits of Latvia and President Gitanas Nausėda of Lithuania, the Estonian Head of State will be discussing regional cooperation, including developments in implementing joint infrastructure projects, and outlining Estonia’s priorities during its period presiding over Baltic and Northern Baltic cooperation in 2020. The presidents will also be discussing regional security, the future of the European Union, relations with neighbouring countries, the Eastern Partnership and the Three Seas Initiative, the next summit for which will be taking place in Tallinn in June 2020.
At the NATO Multinational Division North headquarters in Ādaži, President Kaljulaid will be meeting with base commander Major General Flemming Mathiasen and the Estonian contingent serving there, led by Colonel Aron Kalmus. The headquarters were established last year in cooperation with Denmark. Their main task is to lead military operations in Latvia and Estonia in times of crisis and war. The Head of State will also be inspecting the Ādaži military base of the Latvian armed forces.
President Kaljulaid will be returning to Estonia this evening.
